The renovations look good. The hutongs are pretty. What strikes me is that there are few cafes, boutiques or restaurants. The Hutongs are not very different from each other. Why should a tourist come to Beijing if he always sees the same? A tourist wants variety and diversity. These include cafes, bars, restaurants and shopping. If the Hutongs offered that, Beijing would attract more tourists than if only shopping malls were built. The shopping malls are everywhere in the world. Hutongs with cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques can only be found in Beijing. But if they do not exist in Beijing, there is nowhere. And in my opinion, Beijing needs more Hutongs with cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, because the fewer touristic highlights Beijing has, the more people will visit the few places and that stresses all people. The locals and the tourists. One only has to look into cities like Barcelona where people complain about too many tourists because there are too few tourist attractions to distribute the streams of people. If you fill more and more water in a vessel, it will eventually go over, if it has no holes to drain. |
